Yale won it's first match of the spring season against Southern Connecticut with a final score of 27-19. The first points on the board were placed by Southern with a converted try. The Yale team responded with a rookie try by wing Sharifa Love-Schnur '09 off of a Yale scrum. Kicking against the wind, Yoshi Shapiro '11 failed to convert the try leaving the score at 5-7. Southern soon broke the Yale defensive line and scored a break-away try, which was converted, bringing the score to 5-14. Yale pushed back and earned a second try, brought in by Shapiro. Before the end of the first half, inside center Tucker Marrison '08 matched Southern's break-away with one of her own, which brought the score to a close 14-15. Yale started off the second half strong as Shapiro converted a try brought in by flanker Rebecca Anastos-Wallen '09, taking advantage of a sin-binned Southern player. Southern was able to answer to this with an unconverted try, closing the gap to 19-22. The final points of the game were scored by flyhalf Jackie Madison '09, after a series of passes with scrumhalf Ally Garr-Schultz '09.
Fall 2007
Yale v.s. Radcliffe
Playing on their home pitch, YWRFC defeated Radcliffe 34-5 on a sunny Saturday morning. Yale started the game receiving the kick-off, but lost the ball in the first breakdown. Possession was quickly regained and the Yale push down the field began. Yale dominated the game, though its kick-off returns continued to be poor, and came out of the first half with a strong lead. Rookie Steph Scaramella ’11, scored her first two tries this game, barreling through the Radcliffe players. Tucker Marrison ’08, also scored her first try off of a spectacular run by Sam Fox ’09. Jackie Madison ’09 finsihed the game with a 50 meter run down the left side of the field after a kick-off that resulted in a between-the-posts try.
Vassar
Yale lost to Vassar in its first league game of the season, 0-39. Throughout the first half, the Yale players were beat to the breakdowns and beat on defense, ending with a score of 0-34. Vassar was held off for the second half and Yale came close to putting some points on the board. The small Yale team fielded only nine returning players, but the rookies on the field picked up the game quickly. Yoshi Shapiro ’11, who played at fullback, amazed the team with her open field tackles, return-kicks, and ability to read the game. Another rookie, Steph Scaramella ‘11, entered as a sub for Katie Fitzgerald ‘11 in the second half and charged her way through the Vassar defensive line. The end of the game saw the Yale team pull together and become a force to be reckoned with.
Beantown
YWRFC went to the Beantown tournament this fall in Epping, NH, where the team lost its matches on Saturday to Northeastern (5-13) and to UCSD (0-5). Multiple penalties in the first game hurt Yale as Northeastern advanced quickly across the turf, but Yale cleaned up its game against UCSD and nearly held them off. Yale’s opponent Sunday was Boston College, and the experience gained from the prior to matches paid off with a win of 10-5.
Fall 2006
Yale vs. Brown 10/29/06
Yale competed against Brown this weekend for the Championship title in Division I, New England. A breakaway runner from Brown scored a try from the half, and it was converted. After an intense few minutes on the offensive, Yale fielded and received some kicks, and Captain Emily Roller (BK '07)
shut down another Brown breakaway. Special recognition to flanker Lucy Sorensen (DC '09) for some amazing steals off of the lineouts in this half. October 7, 2006 - Yale takes UConn
Yale really worked together this past weekend to achieve an impressive

(TD '07) after a nice run of passes by fullback Sammy Stone (JE
'07), wing Christina Jacovides (ES '08) and flanker Lucy Sorensen
(DC '09). Soon after, Stone singlehandedly chased down a UConn breakaway
run, shutting it down at Yale's 22. Eight-man and Captain Kate O'Brien

a similar breakaway run minutes later. After a lineout, the ball
was passed out wide to Jac who put in a corner try on the opposite
side of the pitch. Immediately after UConn's post-try kickoff to
Yale, wing Ali Garr-Schultz (SC '09), flanker Samara Fox (PC '09)
and Sammy worked together to put in yet another try, which Sammy

27-7. Prop Rebecca Diamond (JE '07) was awarded a try soon afterwards,
and it was converted by Sammy. The last try of the game was put
in by Ned, and it, too, was converted by Sammy, bringing the final
score to 41-7 Yale. Special shout-out to flyhalf and Captain Emily
Roller (BK '07) and scrumhalf Kathleen Lawler (CC '09) for amazing
teamwork and leadership.
B-Side Results:
In a UConn versus Yale-Conn B-side match, Yale-Conn walked away
with a 10-0 win. Yale-Conn's first try was scored by B-side hooker
Sam Fox. With Maggie Roberts (TD '07), Sarah Newman (SY '07) and
Sam Fox (PC '09) as the front row and Mary Swartz (BK '10) as a
flanker, the Yale-Conn pack dominated in one of the 5-meter scrum
soon afterwards, wheeling UConn. With Ali as scrumhalf, Anna as
flyhalf, Sarah Heller (MC '10) as outside
center, Erin York (DC '09) and Lawler on the wings, and Jackie Madison
(BR '09) as fullback, the backs executed some great plays and put
up some solid defense against UConn. In a UConn throw-in, Mary managed
to steal the ball from the lineout, securing the ball for Yale-Conn.
Later, UConn tossed the ball into its own tryzone, and Ali chased
it down to score a beautiful try that brought the match to its final
score of 10-0 Yale-Conn to UConn.
