Founded in 1978, the Yale Women's Rugby Football Club is one of the oldest women's collegiate rugby teams in the nation. We are a competitive club team, playing against women's rugby teams in the New England Rugby Football Union's College Division I.

Yet the women’s rugby team at Yale is not simply a collegiate athletic organization; it is a family, a sisterhood of gutsy women whose strength and spirit shine, on and off the field. To learn more about becoming a member of the YWRFC tradition, check out our Rookie section.

Best of West Tournament @ Amherst, April 18

Game 1, University of Connecticut (W) 17-0

Game 2, Williams College (W) 17-5

Game 3, UMass at Amherst (T) 0-0

Notable highlights: We had a great day at the Best of West tournament, continuing our undefeated streak for the season.  We tied UMass for 1st place, but unfortunately the tie-breaker was by total points earned in tournament games, meaning we were given 2nd place.  Our first two games were against worthy opponents, but we beat them by implementing all of our new defensive skills we have learned in practices.  Our last game against UMass was our most challenging game this season, and we held them off effectively and did not let any tries in.

Yale vs. Amherst, April 11   (W)   27-18

This game was the YWRFC’s toughest so far this season — and also the rainiest, coldest and muddiest.

The match was held against Amherst, our strongest opponent to date this spring, but Yale held firm and maintained a lead throughout the game.  There was a great first try of the game by forward Lucy Sorenson, and great runs by Adrienne Spiegel and Sophia Shapiro.  Rookie Danielle Kozlowski proved herself on the field as well, tackling opponents twice her size.

Yale @ Princeton, April 4   (W)   44-0

Yale played a good match against a strong opponent this weekend — yet Yale still managed to hold them off throughout the game, not allowing Princeton to score a single try.  One especially impressive try was scored by Yale scrumhalf Ally Garr-Schulz in a breakaway run.  Another instance of great teamwork and ball-passing culminated in a try scored by captain Anna Wipfler.  Despite the winds buffering the ball, fullback Sophia Shapiro successfully converted two of the kicks after tries.

Yale vs. Smith, March 28   (W)   26-0

Yale soundly defeated Smith in the first game of the spring season, with great runs by Jackie Madison, Adrienne Spiegel, Sophia Shapiro, and Brittani Nichols, all of which culminated in tries.  It was the first try of their Yale rugby careers for both Adrienne and Brittani, and for the team it was an exciting start to the season.
