Mangal / BBQ

On April 18th 2009, YFT has organized a "April 23rd National Sovereignty and Children's Day" barbeque at the Lighthouse Park in New Haven which more than forty undergraduates, graduates and friends have attended. While people enjoyed the delicious sucuk and chocolate gofret, kids had a chance to play soccer and run around in this beautiful park.

Republic Day Dinner

On October 29th, 2008, YFT has organized a celebratory dinner event to honor the 85th anniversary of Turkish republic and to bring together the Turkish community on Yale campus. Undergraduate and graduate Turkish students, doctors, visiting scholars and many others have joined us for this lovely evening in which Döner-Pilav and Baklava has been served.

YFT & MSA Mixer

On November 15th, 2008, YFT and Muslim Student Association (MSA) had a mixer together, accompanied by delicious Turkish food and chocolate fountain. It was a great opportunity for the two organizations to not only come together and meet one another but also to share their past expertise and talk about their future events.

Cirque du Monde

In collaboration with many other organizations, Yale Friends of Turkey prepared the 5K event that upholds the idea of presenting four corners of the world; Europe, The Americas, Africa, Asia. In addition to the presentation of each corner of the world, there were cultural shows, mainly dancing performances. It took place in Old Campus, in a tent. Each corner of the world had different decorations, and foods. The tent itself was decorated with lights and balloons so that it would look like a circus. Members of YFT and ISO were at the door at all times. YFT was responsible for the European corner. We decorated the corner with flags of European countries including Turkey, Germany, Greece, Spain etc. The flags belonged to the students who were contacted. We had baklava, YFT brochures and a slide show about Turkey to represent our corner.

The Turkish Greek Party

The Turkish-Greek party was initially held to bring two very similar and yet, divergent cultures together under an energetic, lively and affable atmosphere.  Now this he reason for this traditional undertaking is to show the transformation of the historical ‘rivalry’ to contemporary entertainment. Turkish, Greek, international and American songs and even the Turkish and Greek versions of the same songs are played to show the blending of the two cultures. It is held every year in the fall semester and it is not only an established tradition but also one of the most enjoyable events on campus.

Kasbah

Kasbah, the party, which attracted more than 1,500 students on the night of February 17th was organized with a $5,000 budget from the Undergraduate Organizations Funding Committee. the organizers — representing eight student groups including Yale Friends of Turkey aimed to educate and enjoy Yale community with an informative taste of Middle Eastern culture. The dining hall and the common room of Davenport College will never ever host such joy, energy and enthusiasm.
