YSEC is hoping to take on more of a political activist voice this year and will be starting off the year by joining the Sierra Club and local activist in the Beyond Coal Campaign. Steve Schwarzman, CEO of Blackstone Group is investing in three new coal power plants in the US through the energy company Sithe Global. Steve Schwarzman also happens to be a Yale graduate and adjunct professor. YSEC will be working to petition Schwarzman to pull funding from these new coal projects and direct his money elsewhere.

YSEC will be launching a campaign of petitions, a public forum on the problem of coal and the need for ethical investing, and creative demonstrations. If you are interested in becoming involved in this project please contact rachel.payne@yale.edu.
