The Burgess Shale (near Field, British Columbia) is probably the most famous fossil locality in the world. Cover photographs and feature articles in Time and American Scientist, and Steven J. Gould's book Wonderful Life have illuminated the significance of invertebrates in the history of life, and the value of this particular fossil locality to the study of evolution.
