The following is a brief description of some of the activities offered by our organization. We welcome your participation in a single event or on an ongoing basis. Each group is molded by its participants, thus taking on a unique personality each year.
YMP Book Club meets the last week of every month. We meet at members' homes to discuss a book chosen by the host. We read a wide selection of books including popular novels, biographies, and topical non-fiction.
YMP Running Club is a group open to anyone at any level. The goal is to work together to maintain and improve fitness, and to have fun while motivating one another!
YMP's Monday Morning Playgroup meets once a week and includes infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers. Parents and their children meet at a member’s home, a local park or a library for playtime, good talk and support. It is a great way for parents and children to make new friends. Expectant parents are welcome.
YMP's Weekend Playgroup meets bi-weekly. This Playgroup is a new addition to YMP, an idea started by YMP working parents that couldn't typically make it to our Monday Playgroup. Parents and children of all ages welcome.
Wee Ones Playgroup is for tiny tots (birth-18 months) that just aren't ready to run around with the big kids yet. Expectant parents are welcome.
Every summer YMP hosts a picnic to welcome new members to New Haven and Yale. The picnic is a wonderful opportunity to meet others new to the area as well as current YMP members. The whole family is welcome to attend!
Special Events are monthly events that provide an excellent opportunity to get out of the house and socialize with YMP friends. Annual events include our 4th of July BBQ, Halloween Party, Holiday Cookie Exchange, Valentine's Day Brunch, Easter Brunch & Egg Hunt, and our Farewell Picnic. Other popular events this past year have included a wine tasting, jewelry making, and a political discussion. While most events are designed for the whole family, adult-only events are also planned throughout the year (i.e. Ladies night out, Lecture Series).
Helping Hands assists members in times of crisis or life-changing events (e.g., birth, illness, hospitalization, death in the family) by providing meals. In addition, Helping Hands coordinates YMP’s public service and charity efforts which have included adopting-a-family for the holiday season, toy collections, and preparing homeless shelter meals.
The Club Meeting is held during the first week of each month at a member's home. This is an opportunity for YMP members to get together, talk, and plan activities. All YMP members are welcome and encouraged to attend or send ideas to one of the officers.
