Trips

  • 13 March 2008 to 22 March 2008. Hueco Tanks. Flew in to El Paso the 13th, and took a taxi from there to the Hueco Rock Ranch. Vinod and I began crushing at the Tanks on the 14th on East Mountain. Vinod topped out his first boulder problem outside, and I sent a good slew of problems despite a nasty flapper - Guillotine, Warm Up Roof, Ostracizer, Hobbit in a Blender, and Hector in a Blender - before sketching off Dragonfly. The crushage continued the next day on East Spur, on Mother's Cookies slab problems and others. Sunday was a rest day, thankfully, as the winds kicked up a ridiculous sandstorm, although Vinod went birding that day.
On Monday I returned to East Spur to send Italy Overthrown and a rather amusing birthing-esque problem whose name I forget, and threw myself unsuccessfuly at the Hunger Artist: my damn toe kept cutting. Vinod took an additional rest day, and left the following morning, which was a rest day for me. I revisited East Mountain on Wednesday, resending the Warm Up Roof and nearly sent Crimping Christ on the Cross. It took me a bit too long to figure out the heel-hook beta. Later that day, I traveled over the mountain to East Spur to send The Vulgarian and New Religion.
Thursday I finally visited North Mountain, and failed happily at Babyface, Daily Dick Dose, King Cobra, and Lobster Claw. I only sent Girls of Juarez, 100 Proof Roof, and Nobody Gets Out of Here Alive that day. Taking a good rest day on Friday, I then attacked East Spur with a vengeance for my last day on Saturday, sending Moonshine Center, The Long Haul, and nearly sending Better Beat Your Sweeties. It was an amazing trip, and I can't wait to go back.
