YLPR accepts electronic submissions only. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit articles or essays electronically by emailing a copy in Microsoft Word format to ylpr@yale.edu. YLPR also accepts submissions through the ExpressO submission system, which can be found online at http://www.law.bepress.com/expresso.
To help authors better understand the scope of YLPR's scholarship and the kinds of articles we are most likely to accept for publication, please read our basic submissions criteria:
1) Length: We accept Articles within a range of 10,000-35,000 words, excluding footnotes.2) Authors: We do not accept Articles written by current law students. If you are a Yale Law School student, please submit your piece through our Notes process. Notes cannot exceed 15,000 words, excluding footnotes. If you are a member of YLPR, you may also submit pieces through our Comments process. Comments cannot exceed 3,000 words, excluding footnotes.
3) Topics: We publish Articles on a wide variety of topics; however, we prefer pieces that address a combination of legal and policy-oriented issues and include a policy recommendation or critique. We also favor pieces that include some discussion of, or otherwise relate to, United States law and policy. Such scholarship might focus solely on the U.S. or offer a comparative international approach.
4) Style: Submissions that comply with the Bluebook style of citation are more likely to be accepted.
Submissions Review Process
YLPR Submissions Editors review submissions on a rolling basis throughout the semester, beginning in September for selection of the spring/summer issue, and beginning in January for our fall/winter issue. We do not review submissions over the summer. Although we are unable to contact authors with whom we cannot publish, we generally reach decisions on strong submissions within two weeks of receipt of the piece and will contact the author immediately upon acceptance. The full membership of the journal meets once a week to discuss articles and essays and ultimately to vote on which pieces to accpet for publication. Should an author's piece be selected for a full membership vote, the journal will post the submission as a PDF file on an internal, password-protected network drive. Each page will clearly bear the caption: "Do not cite, reproduce, reference, or use in any way without permission of the author(s)." Although we believe that this process best promotes the integrity and efficiency of our submissions review process, we will of course honor all requests that only paper copies of a submission be distributed directly to our members.
