Betty K. Stowe Bookshelf

The Betty K. Stowe Bookshelf was established in 1990, by the Stowe family after the death of Betty Kwansy Stowe. The bookshelf is a source of detailed information on common health problems written in layman's terms. In 1997, a Student Medicine Annex was created with books highlighting concerns common to college students. In 1998, a pediatric bookshelf was established to provide parents with new information regarding child development.

In 2002 and 2004 additional shelves were established in Ob/Gyn and in the Oncology Suite.

All bookshelves provide opportunities for patients and their families to obtain knowledge about their illnesses and ask informed questions of their health care providers.

The Betty K. Stowe Memorial Bookshelf is located in four locations:

  • The Office of Health Promotion and Education waiting room on the fourth floor of YUHS
  • The OB/GYN waiting room on the second floor of YUHS
  • The Student Medicine waiting room on the fourth floor of YUHS
  • The Pediatric waiting room on the third floor of YUHS
  • Oncology Suite - 5th floor

The Bookshelf was established through a donation and therefore has a limited budget. For this reason, books do not circulate. This policy guarantees that the entire collection is always available.
