The Yale Film Society (YFS) is Yale’s official film appreciation group. Each semester we host several screenings in the gorgeous Whitney Humanities Center auditorium, most of which are shown in 35 mm—real film! Screening movies in 35 mm (the format in which all major features were shot till the 21st century) is a beautiful thing, as film has a special grain and texture that can be lost with digital projection. Due to its relative costliness, 35 mm is a dying format, but we’re trying to keep it alive here at Yale for as long as possible.
