1) Serve as the non-partisan pro-Israel umbrella organization on campus

2) Support Israel as a Jewish Democratic State secure in her borders

3) Promote an appreciation of Israel on campus through cultural, political, and educational programming.

Engaging Disengagement

Melitz, an independent non-profit agency in Israel has recently put together a an interactive 90-minute to 2 hour program that gives participants a deep understanding of what the people of Israel experienced through the disengagement. "Engaging Disengagement" does not take or advocate any side. Rather, participants will see and experience all sides of the issues through the eyes and hearts of the people whose lives will be affected, the people making policy and ordinary Israelis who share a love and concern for Israel and a desire for peace but who have different views on the best way to achieve it.

If you would like to help bring this program to campus, you would work with Melitz representatives to coordinate a date and find a location for the program. Email Amanda Elbogen, and Charles Carriere.

Israel at Heart

In the past, YFI has coordinated some very successful events with Israel at Heart, a non-profit organization that brings Israeli students (fluent in English), to campus, as face-to-face ambassadors for Israel on campus. Last year, possibly our most successful event involved a panel and dinner with Ethiopian-Israeli law students and lawyers brought to campus with Israel at Heart through YFI and Black Student's Alliance at Yale. If you would like to be YFI's campus liaison for Israel at Heart and help create and coordinate a great event with representatives from Israel at Heart email Igal Aciman .

Shotei Nevuah

Shotei Nevuah, or Fools of Prophecy, are an AWESOME band - possibly the most popular in all of Israel - and might be coming to our neighborhood! In the event that they agree to do a concert (I've already contacted them, awaiting a response...) we'll need someone to take charge and coordinate what will undoubtedly be an unforgettable event! Here are some excerpts from their website:

On the musical level the FOOLS are playing a fusion of reggae dub, side by side with hip hop and dance - all spiced with an eastern Mediterranean flavor. Doing so the FOOLS have created their own Israeli style.

THE FOOLS OF PROPHECY are considered a unique phenomenon in the Israeli music scene, due to their sweeping influence over a vast variety of crowds from different ages and origins. By their music the fools unite religious and secular, east and west, Jews, Christians and Muslims.

If you are interested in helping to bring Shotei Nevuah to campus, email Amanda Elbogen

Cultural Awareness Program

CAP, the Cultural Awareness Program, serves to create a bridge between cultural groups at Yale and the New Haven community and schools. It brings a multicultural curricula to New Haven public school education and the opportunity for students to learn about cultures and countries they most likely know nothing about. Three Friday afternoons this semester we will go to classrooms in New Haven and teach the kids about Israel. It's a ton of fun both for them and for us! As CAP delegate you would be in charge of contacting volunteers and organizing the trips to the schools. It's a very small, but extremely important responsibility! The lessons have already been designed, so once the group gets to the school your job is done.

Israeli Film Festival
We are planning to have a screening of an Israeli film this semester and are hoping to make it a big and exciting event! As Film Festival organizer you would have the opportunity to make this happen. With help from others on the board and the rest of YFI you would work on choosing the film(s) and possibly finding speakers for after the screenings. You would also help oversee the publicity, etc. Just like CAP this is a small responsibility, but a very important one, since this is one of the best Israeli culture events we will do all year.

Israeli Technology Exhibit
An exciting upcoming YFI event is a public display of recent Israeli technological advances and breakthroughs. Some of the topics include Israeli-developed cellular phone technologies, computer operating systems, software applications, biomedical innovation and much more. If you're interested in science and would like to help with this project or with securing a location, please email Michael Stern.
