420 Beginner
Monday thru Friday, 9am -12pm
Offered to children with no prior sailing experience. It
emphasizes safety and teaches basic sailing skills as outlined in the Level
1 420 class. This includes knowledge of boat, rigging, launching,
basic sailing, water safety and confidence in handling all points of sail.
420 Intermediate
Monday thru Friday, 9am - 12pm
Teaches kids who are knowledgeable in basic sailing skills
improved boat handling, and provides an introduction to racing. The
curriculum is an extension of the Beginner class with an emphasis upon
independence in rigging, skippering, and boating safety.
420 Advanced
Monday thru Friday, 1pm - 4pm
Intended for older students interested in sailing non-competitively.
The advanced class teaches advanced sailing skills such as high wind sailing,
sailing in waves, basic navigation, seamanship, sailing terminology, and
safety at sea.
420 Racing Team
Monday thru Friday, 1pm - 4pm
The Racing Team continues the racing instruction begun in the
intermediate class and learns advanced tactics and strategy, starting,
sail trim, sail shape, boat setup, and advanced boat handling in practices
run by our racing coach. The racing team will participate in junior racing
clinics and will enter and compete in local regattas against other yacht
clubs. Racing team members are also eligible to compete in a YCYC weekly
racing series.
Weekly Racing Series
Tuesdays, 6pm.
Competitive races for sailors 15 years old and above. Participants must
have racing experience and be prepared to sail in our collegiate 420s.
Races will be conducted within the designated sailing area and will be
run according to current International Yacht Racing Rules. Race committee
will accept protests and results will be posted.
