UPDATED FOR SUMMER 2008
The Yale Corinthian Yacht Club (YCYC or "yic-yic") is a public
sailing facility used primarily by the Yale community and area residents.
Located on Short Beach in Branford, Connecticut, it is the nation's oldest
collegiate sailing organization, dating back to 1881, and home to the Yale
sailing team. Today, the yacht club offers a fleet of twenty-four high
perfomance 420s (a 14 foot, two-person, self-rescuing dinghy), and a wide
range of windsurfing equipment. The club's sailing area is based in Short Beach Cove, a well-protected
inlet of the Long Island Sound. YCYC offers group lessons for both
adults and kids. Weekend lessons for adults are taught throughout the summer.
More experienced sailors may enjoy the excitement of sailing in big waves
on the Long Island Sound. The warm and shallow waters of Short Beach allow
students to tear across the water in no time. As always, YCYC offers top-of-the-line
junior instruction. Beginning, intermediate, and advanced kids will enjoy
learning from our experienced staff of top collegiate sailors.
Every course provides classroom instruction, with an emphasis on on-the-water
instruction. Classes vary in size, scope, and length as per your
individual needs. Private lessons and clinics are also available
upon request. You do not need to be a YCYC summer member in order to take lessons or
enroll your child in the junior program.
All equipment, with the exception of foul weather gear and personal
clothing, is provided.
After renovations during the summer of 2002 the Yale Corinthian Yacht Club is excited to resume its adult and junior summer programs. The entire clubhouse has been renovated, with new features like outdoor showers and changing rooms.
Junior Program parents, please remember to fill out the waiver and medical form and mail in with your registration.
