Yale Children's Theater is an
undergradute organization dedicated to bringing theater to children and
youth in the New Haven area. Our mission is simply to
give kids a fun, exciting way to build on their creativity, cooperation
skills, and most importantly, confidence. We fulfill this mission
throughout the year with five main activities: workshops of all kinds in
schools, libraries, hospitals, and community centers; productions that tour
around New Haven; original shows featuring children
in local public schools; a traveling group of students called the Stage and
Story Troupe; and on-campus activities targeted mainly at Yale students.
We are a registered organization of
Yale University and a member of Dwight Hall; we
are also a 501c3 non-profit corporation under the name Yale Children's
Theater-An Undergraduate Organization-Incorporated.
For general information about our
work, please contact our artistic director, Annie Heller, at
ann.heller@yale.edu. If you're not sure whom to talk to, you can always
reach the entire YCT board at yct

Productions
|
Every year, we presents
four shows to Yale and to the New Haven area. Our cast and crew begin
their run in Dwight Hall on the Yale Campus, where they perform seven shows
in the course of a weekend. After this, we take the show on the road,
touring to schools, libraries, community centers, and other such venues.
Please keep checking back for information on our
upcoming October production!
We've moved!
All performances will be held in the Dwight Hall Common Room on the High
Street side of Old Campus at Yale. Park on the street and enter Old Campus
through the gate on College or High St. (between Chapel and Elm)

YCT News
|
On June
1st, 2003, YCT lost the performance space which we had occupied for over
five years at 248 Park Street. We are seeking out community
partnerships and a more permanent space to secure YCT's continued success. We
view this as an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the community and
continue to foster a safe, creative environment for children. We welcome
any feedback, advice, donations, or partnerships in this area, all of which
can be done by contacting Annie at ann.heller@yale.edu. Please note that we
will continue to perform in our temporary space in Dwight Hall on Yale's
Old Campus (between College, Chapel, High, and Elm Streets).

Workshops
|
Our workshops run through the
semester and are usually one hour every week. Two to three YCT volunteers
lead children in theater games that foster creative thinking, cooperation,
and confidence. From Red Light Green Light to Mad Mad Marionette to Pancake
Maker, these games run the gamut from high-energy warm-ups to more involved
activities. Workshops traditionally take place in local after-school
programs, day cares, libraries, schools, hospitals, and supervised juvenile
living facilities. For more information, contact Kledia at kledia.myrtolli@yale.edu
|
Hands On!
|
Each semester, YCT holds one
session of Hands On!, a special workshop that takes place on the Yale
campus. This seven-week workshop, designed for children ages 6 to 10, meets for two hours every Saturday.
YCT workshop leaders facilitate creative theater games, developing
improvisational skills, and encouraging appropriate social interaction. The
workshop culminates in a short play, written by the children and performed
for an audience of family and friends. For more information about Hands On!, please contact Hugh at hugh.sullivan@yale.edu.

Stage and Story
|
Our Stage and Story Troupe presents
interactive, semi-improvised performances, as well as facilitating one-time
workshops. They have performed at the CT Children's Museum, the Peabody Museum, Yale's Communiversity Day,
children's birthday parties, and many other special events. Questions? Interested
in having S&S perform at your event? Contact Emily at emily.jack-scott@yale.edu

Publicity
|
We at YCT strive to keep both the
Yale and the greater New Haven communities updated on our current
projects. Forms of publicity include a community mailing list, newspapers
and magazines, and radio shows. For questions about publicity, or to be
added to our community mailing list or to the YCT Yale student email list contact
Charlotte at charlotte.martin@yale.edu.

Business
|
Our
activities often cost quite a bit of money for a small, student-run non-profit
organization. All of our business, including financing and budget
maintenance, is organized by Harry Guinness. If you would like to make a
donation, or if you have questions, contact Harry at henry.guinness@yale.edu
