SHEIKH PROFESSOR ABDUL HADI PALAZZI TO SPEAK ON DEMOCRACY
AT YALE UNIVERSITY
Secretary General of the Italian Muslim Association will speak
about Islam and Democracy as part of an ongoing lecture series by
the Yale College Students for Democracy.
NEW HAVEN, CT, February 28, 2003 – Sheikh Professor Abdul
Hadi Palazzi, the Secretary General of the Italian Muslim Association,
will speak on the topic of “Islam and Democracy -- Political
Theory in the Qur'an and Islamic Tradition” March 4 at 4:30
PM in Yale University’s Linsley Chittendon Hall, Room 101.
Sheikh Palazzi’s speech is the second in a series of speeches
organized by the Yale College Students for Democracy (YCSD).
“As a leader within the Italian Muslim community, Sheikh Palazzi
has demonstrated support for democracy, freedom, and tolerance,”
said YCSD President Matthew Louchheim. “We welcome his unique
perspective that defies stereotypes and represents diversity within
Islamic thought.”
Sheikh Palazzi is Resident Professor of Middle East Studies at the
Research Institute for Anthropological Sciences in Rome, Italy;
Consultant for Middle East Affairs to R.A.I. (Italian State TV);
and a professional translator from Arabic and English. He serves
as Imam (Shafi School of Islamic Jurisprudence) of the Italian Islamic
Community; as Muslim Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of the Islam-Israel
Fellowship and as Muslim Chair of the Jerusalem Embassy Initiative,
both of the Root & Branch Association, Ltd.
YCSD invites all members of the media to attend this event; Sheikh
