About Shakti
"Shakti" is a literary magazine founded in the Fall of 1999 whose pages explore a variety of themes exploring South Asian identity, South "Asian Americans," experiences in South Asia, or some aspect of South Asian culture and life. Shakti's authors are both South Asian and non-South Asian. Shakti's editorial board encourages all types and varieties of submissions--creative, reflective, personal, and otherwise. Pieces may also be submitted anonymously.

Last year, Shakti was funded by several grants from private sources and academic departments, and established itself as a firm and respected voice and forum for South Asian artists on campus. This year, we hope to produce an even more rich, colorful issue containing writings by students from a variety of South Asian and South Asian American backgrounds.

Organization
Currently, Shakti is headed and edited by Sunita Puri. Once mobilized, Shakti will have an editorial board, and it, of course, is open to all South Asia-related submissions.

We are always looking for writers, editors, fundraisers, and artists/photographers to help make our magazine a success. If you are interested in helping in the production of Shakti, or in submitting a piece of writing, please contact us:
