Before NAPAWF, she practiced as a civil rights lawyer with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division where she worked on desegregation, bilingual, race and national origin discrimination issues in education-related civil rights cases. Before law school, Kiran became active in social justice issues as a staffer for the first African American Congresswoman in Georgia since Reconstruction. Kiran periodically teaches a public advocacy class as adjunct faculty at American University, Washington College of Law. Kiran immigrated to the United States from England by way of India with her parents when she was two and grew up in Savannah, Georgia. Nepalese Children's Education Fund (NCEF) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to develop the potential of disadvantaged Nepalese children through education. Just $100 will put a child through a year of school. NCEF identifies children who need help that their families are unable to provide. They are placed in school and provided with textbooks and supplies. Social workers in Nepal meet regularly with the children and their parents to assist in the development of the child. We dedicate our resources to each child until they complete high school (grade 12).

Miami: The Heat is On!
Culture Show
Dear Prospective School Teams:
Thank you for considering being a part of the annual Culture Show of S.A.S.A. in Miami, Florida. The show will take place at the Jackie Gleason Theatre on January 6th, 2007. The Culture Show celebrates the culture and talent of young South Asian North Americans. To make things more interesting the show will also be a competition with over $5000 given out as prizes! The prizes will be broken down with 1st place receiving $3000, 2nd place receives $1500, and 3rd place receives $500. There will be a total of 8-10 teams competing for the prize money. The competition is open to all groups and individuals from all schools in the US and Canada. Last year’s winning team was the University of Toronto. This year it could be you! Being a participant does have its benefits. First of all, you are performing at the one and only Jackie Gleason Theatre which seats over 2000, and is in the heart of South Beach. Secondly, you have the chance of winning prize money. Third of all, you get VIP access to all the after parties, which means NO WAITING ON LINES! We do not disregard any specific form of dance thus please feel free to apply with any form of dance! We are quite excited to have you apply for the Culture Show! The registration packet can be found at www.sasaweb.org. Remember the registration packet/demo tapes must be postmarked by November 15, 2006, we will contact all chosen teams by December 1st. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 561-843-8107, or you may send me an email at performers@sasaweb.org.
