Music 390b:  Tips 'N Tricks

Authoring and burning a Video DVD-R with iDVD:


Note: Computers MUMC01, 04, 05, and 07 are NOT equipped with DVD burners.
Please ensure you are using a computer with a DVD burner (all widescreen computers)
before constructing your iDVD project.

1. First, export your edited videos from your video editor (such as Final Cut Pro) with the following settings:

Format: Quicktime movie
Resolution: 720x480
Compression: DV NTSC
Audio: 48khz, 24bit

2. Second, create a new folder on the desktop for your video DVD-R project, name it, and place all of your video assets in that folder.

3. Third, launch iDVD and select "New" from the File menu. When prompted, select a name for your iDVD project, then select the project folder you have just created and click "Create".

4. Fourth, press the "Customize" button and choose a theme for your video DVD-R from the panel on the left of the iDVD project window. You can customize your project's background picture, music, and other settings from the "Settings" tab.

5. Fifth, construct the DVD menu by dragging the video content from the project folder on your desktop onto the project window of iDVD. Rearrange and rename your clips a you desire.

6. Sixth, click the "Preview" button at any time to test the behavior of your DVD-R project. Try clicking on your clips, making sure they play as expected. Click the "Preview" button again to return to edit mode.

7. Seventh, when you are done constructing your project, save it from the File menu.

8. Eighth, cext, insert a blank DVD-R into the DVD drive and click the "Burn" button.

9. Ninth, depending on the length of your video content, it can take several hours to process and burn your video DVD-R.

Do not leave DVD-R authoring for the last minute !!!!
