Music 390b:  Individual or Collaborative Final Project

 

 

Guidelines

 

1. Plan your Individual or Collaborative Final Project 

 

a.      You may choose the general aesthetic and conceptual approaches for your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

 

b.     Select from one of the following genre types:

 

1.     A musical composition 8:00 or more minutes in length.

2.     A musical video 8:00 or more minutes in length.

3.     A film or video with a musical score, also 8:00 or more minutes in length.

4.     An interactive MAX/MSP/Jitter design environment, that takes between 8:00 or more minutes to experience.

5.     Some combination of the above.

6.     Technological subversio of either onr or more of the above.

7.     Design your own genre type.

 

2. Work on your Individual or Collaborative Final Project in class/lab as designated.

3. Specific Requirements for the Individual or Collaborative Final Project

 

d.     Use at least three of the following software programs.

 

1.     Cubase SL/SX 3.0

2.     Reason 3.0

3.     Recycle 2.1

4.     Metasynth Pro 4.0

5.     radiaL OSX

6.     FinalCut Pro 5.0

7.     Motion 1.0

8.     MAX/MSP/Jitter 4.5.5

 

e.      Use the following source clips and data types.

 

1.     Required use of "original" audio and MIDI data

2.     Optional use of "plundered" audio and MIDI data

3.     Optional use of "original" image/video data

4.     Optional use of "plundered" image/video data

 

f.     Time requirement: 8:00 or more minutes in length

 

4. Submit your Individual or Collaborative Final Project Proposal on Tuesday, Feb. 21st.

 

g.      Post an .rtf document of your Individual or Collaborative Final Project Proposal in your folder on the Musi390b Final Projects site.

 

5. Present your Individual or Collaborative Final Project Work-In-Progress Report on the date assigned.

 

h.      Your presentation must include:

1.     An overview of your aesthetic and conceptual approaches to your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

2.     A summary of your progress working on your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

3.     A listening (audio CD) or viewing (DVD) of clips from your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

 

6. Present your finished Individual or Collaborative Final Project on Friday, Apr. 21st at the Mini-Marathon.

 

i.     Your presentation must include:

 

1.     An overview of your aesthetic and conceptual approaches to your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

2.     A summary of your process working on your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

3.     A listening (audio CD) or viewing (DVD) of your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

 

7. Submit your finished Individual or Collaborative Final Project Materials on Friday, Apr. 21st.

 

j.     Your final submission of materials must include:

 

1.     A final essay describing your finished Individual Final Project results posted as an .rft document on on the Musi390b

          Final Projects site.

2.     A data CD-R or DVD-R with ALL of your various project materials archived on it, and, that's fully functional!

3.     Either an ACC compressed QuickTime .mov file of your audio soundtrack, or, an ACC compressed QuickTime .mov file of your

          music video that is resized to 320x240 pixels, and either included on your data archive CD-R or DVD-R.

4.     The final, produced audio CD or DVD of your Individual or Collaborative Final Project.

5.     Submit to Dr. A on Friday, April 21st.
