Application to Seminars
|
Application to Seminars College seminars meet during the first week of classes, beginning Wednesday, September 3. Students attend the first session of the seminar and submit an application card to the instructor at the end of that session. Lists of admitted students are posted at www.yale.edu/collegeseminar by September 10. "First-choice" seminar application cards are included in student registration packets; additional cards for application to other seminars are available in college deans' offices or the College Seminar Office (35 Broadway, Room 222). Each term, a student is permitted to submit one first-choice card and two additional cards. A student may enroll in no more than two college seminars in any given term, and no more than four total during his or her time at Yale. Auditing is not permitted. Applicants are strongly urged to write a statement of interest in the space provided on the back of the seminar application card. This information is useful to instructors in determining class enrollment. Seminars are limited to eighteen students (fifteen for writing courses). College sponsorship of a seminar is indicated by the inclusion of the college's initials in the course number. The initials of the cosponsoring college appear in parentheses following the course number. In cosponsored seminars, six spaces each are reserved for members of the two sponsoring colleges. In a seminar sponsored by only one college, half the spaces are reserved for members of that college. The remaining spaces are open to all undergraduates regardless of college affiliation. Application to Writing Seminars The seminars listed below require a writing sample of no more than five pages stapled to the application card. Please note: writing samples will not be returned.
