Applications and Correspondence

Inquiries about readmission should be directed to the chair of the Committee on Readmission, Yale College Dean's Office, 110 SSS, P.O. Box 208241, New Haven, CT 06520-8241. The first inquiry about readmission to a fall term should come no later than the previous April 30, and applications must be submitted by June 1. The first inquiry concerning readmission to a spring term ordinarily should ordinarily come no later than the previous September 30, and applications must be returned by November 1. These deadlines are strictly enforced. Both the inquiry and the application should be sent by receipted mail. Applications must be accompanied by payment of a fee of $50; checks should be made payable to Yale University. (In cases of economic hardship, the University will waive this fee. Petitions for a waiver should be addressed to the chair of the committee.)

It is the obligation of the candidate to provide the committee on time with all the materials it needs to make a decision. Every candidate who has undertaken academic course work while withdrawn should arrange for an official transcript of all such work to be sent directly to the chair of the committee by the registrar of each institution which the candidate has attended. If courses are completed just prior to the date of proposed readmission, the applicant should arrange for a grade report to be sent directly by the instructors of courses to the chair of the committee. An official transcript is required in such a case, but pending its arrival the committee can make a decision on the basis of information received from instructors. Employers or others providing letters of recommendation should also write directly to the committee. The committee expects to have these letters in hand before interviews take place.

Readmission is not official until the student has received a letter of readmission from the chair; such provisional actions as the assignment of a room in the residential college or the issuance of a term bill does not constitute readmission. Action taken by the committee on an application is final.
