Campus Tours

 

10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Tours of the campus will be offered in English for visiting parents and families. The tours are free and no pre-registration is required. Come to the Visitor Center, 149 Elm St., five minutes prior to the start of the scheduled tour.

11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
An opportunity for parents and families to learn about health services available to Yale students. Tours of the Yale University Health Services building will be available. Refreshments will be served. 17 Hillhouse Avenue, Room 445

Sterling Memorial Library Events

 

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Treasures of the Slavic Reading Room, hosted by Tatjana Lorkovic, Curator of the Slavic and East European Collections. The prized possessions of the Slavic Reading Room will be displayed and the staff will describe them to the visitors. Please meet opposite the Circulation Desk near the guard station and the group will proceed to the 4th floor reading room together. For more information call 203-432-1861. Limit 20 people.

5:30 p.m.
Take a private, pre-dinner tour of the Robert B. Haas Family Arts Library located in the newly-renovated Rudolph Hall and Loria Center at York and Chapel Streets. Weather -permitting, the tour will end on the roof of the former A&A Building where the view of the campus at dusk is quite lovely. The tour will be hosted by Allen Townsend, Director of the Arts Library. For more information call 203-432 8600. Haas Family Arts Library, 180 York Street. Self Guided Tours of Sterling Memorial Library

 

Available throughout the weekend, whenever the Library is open. Self-tour guide brochures can be picked up at the 120 High Street entrance of Sterling Memorial Library. Visitors are guided through the history and founding of Yale's largest and most central Library. The tour encompasses some of the splendid reading rooms and highlights many architectural features such as the characteristic stone carvings and stained glass. Several exhibits including materials from Yale's collections will also be on display throughout the Library.

Learn how the study of other languages and cultures can benefit any major. Manuscripts and Archives welcomes Family Weekend visitors in the department's Cowles Research Center and Reading Room, Sterling Memorial Library. On display will be selected items from the eighteenth through the twentieth centuries, including minutes from the 1701 meeting of the founding ministers of Yale as well as the 1774 laws of the college. Also of interest will be the patent for Eli Whitney's cotton gin, a letter from Harriet Beecher Stowe regarding slavery, Secretary of War Henry Stimson's diary entries regarding the dropping of the atomic bomb in 1945, and correspondence concerning the awarding of an honorary degree to Martin Luther King, Jr. by Yale University in 1963. Manuscripts and Archives is located just inside the Wall Street entrance of Sterling Memorial Library. For more information call 203-432 8600.
