This calendar was prepared in consultation with the Sophomore Class Council.  Please send suggestions and comments to Dean John Loge, director of sophomore advising.

Informational meetings. Beginning in October and continuing throughout the academic year, departments hold informational meetings for prospective majors. Announcements are posted in the individual departments and on this site.

2009

 

Fall Term

August

Residences open to upperclassmen, 9 A.M.

Placement exams and departmental meetings.

Required registration meetings in the residential colleges. Time announced by each dean's office.

Academic Fair. Representatives from academic departments and programs in Yale College will hold information sessions, orientation meetings, and consultations with freshmen. A complete list of participating departments and meeting locations will be posted at the main entrances of the buildings. William L. Harkness Hall, 100 Wall Street, and Linsly-Chittenden Hall, Old Campus, 2–4 P.M.

Online preregistration for introductory English courses, 4.30–7.30 P.M.

Fall-term classes begin.

11 Fri.

 

Deadline to apply for a fall-term leave of absence; see your residential college dean for more information.

15 Tues.

 

Fall-term course schedules due for sophomores.

Deadline to apply for a 2010 spring term abroad. Sophomores are eligible for study abroad for Yale course credit during spring term 2010.

Deadline to complete financial aid applications for spring term, for students not enrolled in the 2009 fall term.

23 Fri.

 

Midterm.

Last day to withdraw from a fall-term course without having the course appear on the transcript.

Deadline to apply for double credit in a single-credit course.

Begin research at the Center for International Experience, the Office of Fellowship Programs, and UCS on deadlines for summer internships and fellowships.

6 Fri.

 

Last day to convert a fall-term course from Credit/D/Fail to a letter grade.

16 Mon.

 

Deadline to apply for the second major in International Studies.

21 Sat.

 

Fall recess begins, 9 P.M.

Classes resume.

Meet with your sophomore faculty adviser to evaluate your fall term.

Deadline for all course assignments, including term papers. This deadline may be extended only by a Temporary Incomplete authorized by your residential college dean.

Final examinations begin, 9 A.M.

Consult the Teacher Preparation and Education Studies program if you are thinking of combining your major with a teaching certificatie, public or private.

Deadline to apply for the Environmental Studies major.

Some departments have March deadlines for pre-enrolling in fall-term seminars.

Many fellowships and internships have March deadlines. Check with the Center for International Experience, the Office of Fellowship Programs, and UCS.
