Academic Advisers
To help you follow Yale's guidelines and fulfill the requirements, various people are available with whom you are expected to work out your plans, shaping a program particularly your own. Your official academic adviser is your residential college dean. Soon after arrival, you should discuss your academic program and any other questions you might have with your dean. The dean may direct you to other faculty members or perhaps to more experienced transfer students, if it seems appropriate. The dean also counsels students on personal and academic matters, and gives advice about the rules of Yale College. The residential college dean's office maintains students' academic records. |

The dean will direct any student who has already selected a major to the director of undergraduate studies (DUS) of the relevant department or program. If you have a problem with a particular course, the dean can often help you resolve it by discussing your problem with the instructor or the DUS, or by referring you to the tutoring program administered by the Yale College Dean's Office. The dean's advice can be invaluable not just in your first year but throughout your career at Yale.
As you plan, you should keep in mind that the normal load for a term is four or five course credits, and that for the first term, transfer students are advised to take a four-credit course load, if possible.
