Transportation to New Haven

For those not traveling by car, New Haven may be reached by plane, train, or bus. For air travel, Tweed–New Haven Airport is the closest airport to campus—ten minutes by taxi or bus. US Airways Express serves Tweed, with connecting service via Philadelphia to points beyond. Taxi service is available at Tweed for approximately $15 (Metro Taxi 203 777-7777 or Yellow Cab 203 777-7770). Connecticut Transit buses pick up passengers at the airport for $2–$3 (203 624-0151).

Bradley International Airport, in Hartford, Connecticut, is approximately 45 minutes from New Haven and is served by all major domestic airlines. Connecticut Limousine (800 472-5466), a van shuttle company, offers service between the airport and New Haven. The company offers reduced rates for Yale students. When booking, mention that you are a Yale student. Be prepared to show your driver some documentation—the housing letter from your residential college dean for your first trip, your Yale id for later trips—to qualify for the lower rate. On request, Connecticut Limousine offers pickup and drop-off service from Phelps Gate on the Old Campus.

The New York area airports (Kennedy and LaGuardia) and Newark Airport, New Jersey, are two to three hours from campus. Connecticut Limousine (800 472-5466) is available from all three airports into New Haven (approximately $65–$80 one way). Prime Time Shuttle (866 284-3247) also offers service to LaGuardia and Kennedy (approximately $52 one way), but not to Newark. Amtrak trains are available from Newark Airport for approximately $52 one way (800 872-7245). On request, Connecticut Limousine and Prime Time Shuttle offer pick-up and drop-off service from Phelps Gate on the Old Campus.

For travel by train, New Haven is served by two railroad lines—Amtrak (800 872-7245) and Metro-North (800 638-7646).

For travel by bus, two long-distance bus lines—Peter Pan (800 343-9999) and Greyhound (800 231-2222)—have terminals in New Haven.

Note: Taxis meet all trains, buses, and flights in New Haven. Taxi service is per ride, not per person. All quoted rates are approximate and are subject to change without notice.
