International Study

While you are thinking about the rest of your Yale experience, you might also want to begin thinking about international study. Yale College believes that academic study of the international world and firsthand experience of foreign cultures are crucial training for citizens of the global future. You can go abroad for a term or for an entire academic year during your Yale experience, and with proper planning you can do so and still graduate with your class. Students on financial aid continue to receive need-based aid while abroad for one or two terms in approved courses or programs. You can also go abroad during the summer through Yale Summer Session courses or Yale-
organized internships, or with the help of Yale grants or fellowships. If you are on financial aid, you are eligible for an International Summer Award (ISA). As long as you participate in a Yale-designated summer program abroad, the ISA offers funding based on demonstrated need during the preceding academic year, as well as a grant equal to your expected summer contribution for the next academic year. You may receive only one ISA.
