Freshman dormitories open. Freshmen are expected to move into their rooms by 7 p.m. Those who cannot arrive by 7 p.m. should contact the office of their residential college dean for further instructions. Freshmen are not permitted to move into their dormitory rooms before August 28. Incoming students arriving before this date are responsible for making their own lodging arrangements off campus unless they have registered for a preorientation program. A listing of local hotels is posted at www.infonewhaven.com under “Travel Tips.”

Student Financial Services. Students and parents may make payments and obtain information about monthly account statements, financial aid, loans, and other billing and payment matters. First floor, 246 Church Street.

Complimentary Continental Breakfast on the Old Campus and in Silliman and Timothy Dwight colleges. Because freshman meal contracts do not begin until Tuesday, September 1, freshmen should be prepared to purchase meals on Friday. Sandwiches, beverages, and snacks will be sold at the food tent on the Old Campus during the day, and dinner will be served in Commons. About $30 should be sufficient to cover the cost of lunch and dinner on Friday.

Masters' open houses. Parents and families are invited to an informal open house at the master’s house in the residential college of their son or daughter. The Morse College open house will be held at the New Residence Hall (“Swing Space”), 100 Tower Parkway.

Iftaar Dinner. Muslim Students’ Association and the University Chaplain’s Office break the daily Ramadan fast with Iftaar, the traditional evening holiday meal. Battell Chapel, corner of Elm and College Streets.

Freshman registration meetings. All freshmen meet with their residential college dean in their college’s dining hall. Students in Morse College meet at the New Residence Hall (“Swing Space”), 100 Tower Parkway.

Security meeting for parents and families. A discussion about personal security at Yale, with an opportunity to meet members of the Yale University Police Department and the Department of University Security Programs. Specific information will be presented about the student’s role in personal safety at Yale and in New Haven and about University programs and services designed to enhance security. Improv Extravaganza! Please join all four of Yale’s improv groups for a hilarious night of comedy during your first night at Yale. Groups include: The Exit Players, Just Add Water, The Purple Crayon, and The Viola Question. Davenport Common Room.
