How to Apply

Many fellowship competitions are administered through the Office of Fellowship Programs, but we advise even on applications for competitions not administered through our office. The application process is more or less similar for most competitions: you need to figure out what you want to do, prepare your fellowship application (including proposal, essays, and budget, as applicable), submit it by the deadline, and, often, interview.

We hope that the guidance provided on this Web site helps you get you started, but it is always useful to talk with someone. The advisers at the Office of Fellowship Programs are glad to help; click here for contact information.

In addition, if you are thinking about applying for a national fellowship such as Truman, Marshall, or Fulbright, Graduate Fellowship Affiliates have volunteered to give you the benefit of their experience with these competitions and are an invaluable source of insight and advice. And finally, Advice and Interview Reports collect the experience of previous Yale applicants; do take advantage of this.
