PHYS 150a - General Physics

Physics 150a is the first semester of a full year introductory physics sequence. Physics 150a covers mechanics, thermodynamics and waves. The second semester of this sequence, Physics 151b, covers electricity and magnetism, optics and modern physics.

Physics 150a does not assume any mathematical training beyond high school algebra, geometry and trigonometry. Students who are planning to major in the physical sciences or those preferring a calculus-based introduction to physics should consider Physics 180a and 181b or Physics 200a and 201b. Additional information about the selection of the appropriate introductory physics sequence may be viewed in the Yale College Programs of Study at www.yale.edu/yalecol/publications/ycps/chapter_iv/physics.html.
