MATH 112a or b - Calculus of Functions of One Variable I

The objective of Math 112 is to introduce the notions of derivative and of definite integral for functions of one variable, with some of their physical and geometrical motivation and interpretations. Emphasis will be placed on acquiring an understanding of the concepts that underlie the subject, and on the use of those concepts in problem solving. Mathematica exercises will be used for some explorations.

Facility with basic algebra and trigonometry is assumed.   Students who are considering taking a course in Yale's introductory calculus sequence (Math 112, 115 or 120), and who have not taken calculus at Yale, must take the online calculus placement exam. The first ten problems of this exam illustrate the skills expected of a student wishing to take Math 112.
