Adagio (1966)
Joaqu’n Rodrigo
Born in Spain in 1902, Rodrigo was blind from the age of three. The spirit of his native Valencia runs through all of his music Ñ “a Mediterranean spirit which seems to be the essence of all races that dwelt on the historic seaboard.” Adagio is conducted in two parts, each distinguished by its own tempo. The first section presents a beautiful and simple melody, passed about through the woodwind instruments. The second section represents the more fiery attributes of the Latin cultureÑfanfare brass with splashes of color from the woodwinds and percussion. Back to index of works |
