The Yale University African–American Affinity Group (YAAA) was a recent benefactor to a widely–successful New Haven community youth–golf program founded by Yale senior Christine Nguyen ’09 and integrated by The Dixwell–Yale Community Center into their Summer Learning Program. The University provided space on its private, outdoor course, and in the Payne–Whitney gym for rainy days, with other Yale departments offering support. YAAA helped with the children’s lessons, and in conjunction with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion provided T–shirts and participant trophies and hosted the ending banquet. Future coordination of the program will now reside with YAAA, which plans to include mentoring and scholarship opportunities for program graduates.
