Senator

Marlene Malahoo Forte was elected to Jamaica's parliament in 2009. Between 2009 and early 2012, she also served as Minister of State, with responsibility for the foreign trade portfolio of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade. Currently, she is a member of several committees in the Joint EU-CARIFORUM. In addition, she serves as the chair for various Jamaican Parliamentary organizations. Having earned a reputation as a tireless advocate for fundamental reform of Jamaica’s judicial system, she previously served as a judge and president of the Association of Resident Magistrates as well as a prosecutor and president of the government lawyers’ association. Malahoo Forte was also a lecturer in criminal practice and procedure at the University of the West Indies. She also heads the Women’s Leadership Initiative, a committee of United Way Global. In 2010, she was named a Young Global Leader and awarded The Outstanding Young Persons award by the West Indies Junior Chamber.
