Head of Unit for Communications, Commission of the European Union Stefaan De Rynck serves as Head of Unit for Communications in the Commission of the European Union, within the department in charge of the European Union's single market. The department is responsible for ensuring the free movement of services and capital in the 27 EU countries, as well as for reforming the EU financial system in the wake of the global credit crunch. Previously, he was in charge of media analysis, multimedia projects, and the Annual Report on the State of the European Union. He was a spokesperson for various Members of the European Commission, responsible for media relations on key issues such as EU transport policies, treaty negotiations, and institutional affairs. In 2000, he drafted the White Paper on European Governance, including a plan to reform the organization and provide more opportunities for regional governments to be involved in EU policy-making.
