Beatriz Boza | Peru | 2002
PhotoAttorney Beatriz Boza has helped to reform the way Peru handles its fiscal affairs. A crusader for good government, she developed and implemented a major anti-corruption effort and other reform programs during her country’s difficult transition to a more democratic government. A former head of both Peru’s consumer protection agency and market liberalization organization, Boza helped to modernize the training of Peru’s public officials.

Post-Fellowship:

Boza is currently executive director of Ciudadanos al Día (CAD), a Peruvian-based think tank and government watchdog organization that promotes citizen participation and empowerment in public policy development. Her projects include the improvement of fiscal transparency through public provision of information and the creation of Peru’s Best Government Practices Prize. Boza also serves as professor of legal ethics at the Catholic University of Peru Law School and as a weekly columnist for El Comercio, Peru’s leading daily newspaper. In 2004, Boza was a member of the External Advisory Panel on Improving Investment Climates, an evaluation conducted by the World Bank Group. Boza was the first woman elected by the Peruvian Congress to serve as an independent member of the Central Reserve Board. Boza plans to launch a Moot Court competition on ethical issues pertaining to the practice of law in Peru.
