Who's NewsSuzette Bailey, RN and Jennifer McIntryre, RN were recently chosen as two of this year's recipients of the "Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing." The award honors those nurses who "epitomize the best qualities in personal patient care, demonstrate a commitment to the community served, and exemplify life-long professionalism." Both Bailey and McIntyre are on the staff of Yale University Health Services where Bailey is a nurse on the Inpatient Care Unit, and McIntyre is the RN Coordinator in the Surgical Specialties Department. C.J. May, Yale recycling coordinator, was recently featured in the Hartford Courant article "Taking Green to the Altar," which focused on Yale's green initiative and how it has influenced the lifestyles of staff, faculty, and students. May and his wife Becky, who actually adopted their changes before Yale's initiative, choose walking and public transportation over their Prius, given distance factors. While they did only eat Connecticut-grown food for two years, they now balance this with organic food and even "reduced for quick sale" foods. Along with their three children, they wear reused clothing for the most part. But a green lifestyle does not always come easily. "The trick," says May, "is to do things that are going to help the entire society make a shift in terms of reducing waste, saving energy, and cutting down on greenhouse gases." |
