It was a beautiful night on the Yale golf course when these honorees from Publishing Services Center and Reprographic Imaging Services gathered together for a celebratory photo. They are (left to right): front, John Cawley, 35 years, and Shirley Conyers-Ford, 25 years; back, Jim Matthewson, five years; Kim Perno, 10 years; Barbara Voiges, 20 years; Bernie Hayden, 20 years; Donna Mishiwiec, 30 years; Maura Gianakos, 10 years; Laura Beattie, 20 years; John Heine, 25 years; Anne Marie Quirke, 15 years.

While the University is honoring its long-service employees with large events in April and May, departments throughout the Yale community are celebrating their dedicated staff, some honoring a long-standing tradition of recognition, and others, like the Publishing Services Center (PSC) and Reprographic Imaging Services (RIS), inaugurating their own.

On April 8, RIS hosted a staff dinner party at the Yale golf course for all departmental employees. "I'm a believer in trying to get people involved," said Jeff Gworek, RIS director. Jill Johnson, RIS financial manager, who served as chair of the organizing committee said, "the idea was simple: just to get people together to talk," and talk they did from four in the afternoon until eight o'clock at night. "It was a morale booster," said Jill, getting together that way.

RIS, which has two locations, a busy production schedule, and a staff of seventy, including many drivers, had to plan their event for a time when people could be in one place. The only time turned out to be after work, and it was a huge success, with nearly everyone in the department attending. "I was overwhelmed," said Jeff. "People were so excited to be there." In addition to dinner and the opportunity to get to know each other outside of work, the event also honored long-service employees with 5 to 35 years of service.

Since then, the one-time committee formed to oversee this event, which also included Cindy Cabral, Trish Fitzgerald, Lynne Reichentahl, and Mabel Thorne, has now become a standing committee who is busy planning a summer outing. "The better we work together," said Jill, "the better we are at getting things done well."
