The Works of Jonathan Edwards was conceived by renowned literary historian Perry Miller in 1953. Its aim is to publish a modern critical edition of the entire corpus of Edwards' published and unpublished works. Nearly half of these writings, a total of 27 volumes, will be issued in book form by Yale University Press. To date, eighteen volumes, along with A Jonathan Edwards Reader (1995) and The Sermons of Jonathan Edwards: A Reader (1999), have been released. All of Edwards' writings, including those issued in the letterpress edition, will eventually be published in a searchable, electronic format. With offices at the Divinity School of Yale University, The Works of Jonathan Edwards also sponsors conferences and other educational enterprises, working to make the thought of early America's greatest thinker available to the public. Primary funding for The Works of Jonathan Edwards is provided by the Pew Charitable Trusts, with additional funding from the Henry Luce Foundation and the Lilly Endowment. The Works of Jonathan Edwards cooperates with The Institute for the Advanced Study of Religion at Yale to foster the study of religion in American life and history. |
