Events for 2005-2006
WISAY-Pfizer Mentoring Program
Women In Science At Yale (WISAY) has partnered with Pfizer in establishing a Mentoring Program, which pairs female graduate students or post-docs with employees of Pfizer. The goal of the program is to forge mentoring relationships with Pfizer professionals (in many fields not just Science but in Technology, Finance, Procurement, Operations, HR, or Informatics).
Matching of the mentor is based on areas of interest, educational goals, topics you wish to discuss, and what you hope to gain from the mentoring experience. Since many Pfizer employees have vast experiences in academia, small pharma, and biotechnology companies this opportunity is beneficial to all, not just those who want to work for a large pharmaceutical company.

Article Discussion
January 26, 2006, Bass 405.
We discussed the recent Nature essay entitled "Pushing for Power" by Ad Lagendijk and three commentaries on the article. The one-page article is quite thought provoking on the topics of measurement of scientific power, public views about how scientists do research, and the seeming eternal need for scientists to be on the defensive regarding their research. NATURE|Vol 438|24 November 2005 page 429 (PDF); NATURE|Vol 439|5 January 2006 page 18 (PDF).
This lively discussion about the paper offered quality food for thought (and eating), and a chance to socialize.
