Board Members
Dorottya Blaho, President
Doro received her B.A. in biochemistry from The College of Wooster in 2003. Currently she is a graduate student in Andrew Miranker's lab in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, focusing on understanding the molecular basis of amyloid fiber formation. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, traveling, photography, and playing the piano.
Shani Elbaum, Director of Programs and Initiatives
Shannon Stewart, Director of Mentoring Program
Shannon graduated with a B. S. in Cell Biology from the University of Kansas in 2006. As a student there, she worked with Rob Ward to help uncover genes involved in initiating Rho signaling. Currently, she is a graduate student in John Carlson's lab where she is investigating a novel family of potential chemosensory receptors. In her free time, she likes to dance and cook for friends.
Joy Tanaka , Assistant Director of Mentoring Program, event coordinator
Sara Heitkamp, Director of Finances and Assistant Director of Programs and Initiatives
Sara received her B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied the effects of intracellular osmolytes on protein processes in the lab of Tom Record. Now a graduate student in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale, she is working in Enrique De La Cruz's lab to elucidate the kinetic mechanism of unwinding by RNA helicases. Her hobbies include going to the beach, cooking, and hanging out with friends in New Haven.
Hannah Chapin, Advisor for Mentoring Program
Hannah is currently a graduate student in the Cell Biology Department, in the lab of Michael Caplan. A native of North Carolina, Hannah attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota where she got her degree in biology and environmental studies, while also learning a lot about snow and knitting. After graduating in 2003 she spent a year working at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD before coming to Yale. Her graduate research focuses on polycystin-1 cleavage and effects, while her education in life continues in music, hiking, and reading.
