History and Vision
Yale's West Campus, located 7 miles west of downtown New Haven on 136 acres, straddles the city of West Haven and the town of Orange. This cluster of 20 buildings, ample parking and acres of open space was acquired in 2007. It includes 1.6 million square feet of research, office, and warehouse space that provides opportunities to enhance the University’s medical and scientific research and other academic programs.
The University's vision for this site is to strengthen science, medicine and engineering at Yale through use of this facility and its extraordinary lab and research buildings. In addition, Yale plans to create a collections campus that would conserve and digitize its collections, printed materials and natural history.
