W1YU - The Yale Amateur Radio Club

Yale Amateur Radio Club

Founded in 1926, the YARC was a student club at Yale University for amateur "ham" radio operators with call sign W1YU. At its peak in the 1980's, the Club had some 25 members.

Dormant for several years, the Club is reorganizing around faculty, staff, alumni, retirees, in addition to students. We have met to choose officers, start the process to become a Yale recognized organization, and to find a home for the Club station W1YU. We have reactivated as an ARRL affiliated club.

If you are a member of the greater Yale University community, and if you are a ham operator or have an interest, we would like to hear from you!

Alumni - We want you! Please let us know if you are or have been a ham or a member of the W1YU club. We have an active mailing list, and we are creating opportunities to meet on the air, at alumni events, and on that new-fangled Echolink.

Our vision is for a club that brings together Yale-related people (and even wannabes) from around the world as well as the New Haven area. We are exploring what a radio club can be in the Internet Age. Join us!
