Travel Information

We strongly urge you to use public transportation! Traffic in Washington, D.C., is always near gridlock and parking is extremely difficult. Wear your sneakers or boots for easier travel. It is wise to carry your dress shoes (and for women, an extra pair of nylons) in a knapsack. Even though you may be planning to use another mode of transportation, still carry enough cash for a cab fare! Your destination is:

Directions: 

Location: Five blocks from historic Dupont Circle in Washington, DC, in the heart of shopping, theaters, museums and Washington's finest nightlife.

Garage parking is located at 2005 Florida Avenue, between Connecticut Avenue and T Street.

Additional parking possibilities:

  • Town Park

  • 1776 Massachusetts Avenue (across the street from the Carnegie Endowment building)
    Open: 7-7 pm, M-F
    Rates: 0-1 hour $5; each additional hr. $5; all day $10 
  • Central Parking System

  • 1800 Massachusetts Avenue (at 18th street, on the right coming down from Dupont Circle)
    Open: 7-8:30 pm, M-F 
    Rates: 0-1 hour $5; each additional hr. $5; all day $10 
  • Standard Parking

  • 1760 N St. or 1225 Connecticut Ave. (down 18th St., left onto N, take first right)
    Open: 6:30-10:30 pm, M-F
    Rates: 0-1 hour $5.50; each additional hr. $11.50, all day $11.50
    After 5 pm, $7 maximum 
  • 24-hour Parking

  • 11 Dupont Circle (entrance is off New Hampshire Avenue)
    Rate: a flat fee of $6 is charged for entry after 6 pm 
Rail Transportation to Washington, DC

Amtrak Trains arrive at Union Station, 50 Massachusetts Ave., NE. 

Taxi: You can take a taxi to the Academy for Educational Development (1825 Connecticut Avenue, NW). Taxis are most easily found outside the main entrance of the station. Any policeman will give you directions. The cost for the Taxi will be approx. $4.00 to $6.00.

Or you can take:

Subway: The DC subway system, called Metro, is one of the cleanest and easiest city subway systems in the country. At Union Station, follow the signs (a big letter M) to the Metro platform. Buy a farecard ($1.20 one way, $2.40 for roundtrip) at the farecard machine. Take the Red Line towards Shady Grove. The ride will be approximately 8 minutes long, and you want exit the train at the Dupont Circle stop. The Academy for Educational Development building is 4/10 of a mile away up Connecticut Ave., visible on this map
