2009 ViSA Board

PRESIDENT: Vera Eastman (JE '11)
Vera is very excited to be co-president of ViSA for this next year. She is a sophomore about to declare her major.  She has decided to be an anthropology major while still staying on the pre-med track.  Anthropology interests her because of her mixed heritage and her love of culture.  Vera loves ViSA and Vietnamese history.  She wants to preserve the traditions of our past generations while still binging in progress and influence from our new American home.  Vera loves soccer and piano and misses doing her favorite activities from home.  Aside from ViSA, Vera is involved in ANAAY, the Association of Native Americans at Yale.  She would like to bring in new ideas to the Vietnamese community and teach others of Vietnamese culture and traditions.  If you have any questions regarding our community, please contact her.  She would love to answer any questions or help inform anyone about ViSA.

SECRETARY: Nick Rosenbaum (JE '11)
Hailing from the warm, sunny state of Minnesota, Nick Rosenbaum is only Vietnamese by association, but has been a member of ViSA since the beginning of freshman year, and loves it to pieces. He is a member of the BEST college and class at Yale, JE '11, and is a Chinese and International Studies double major, but he also dabbles in Japanese and other linguistic tomfoolery. When not hanging out with ViSA friends or taking minutes at weekly meetings, you're most likely to find him eating spicy food to make up for the unfortunate mildness of New Haven cuisine. Outside of ViSA, he's a JE Master's Aide and part of Jook Songs, the World Fellows Program, St. Anthony Hall, and Bass Library. When he grows up, he would like to be able to speak English fluently.

TREASURER: Vy Tran (TD '12)

CULTURAL CHAIR: Paul Tran (SY'12)
The notorious Paul Tran was born in San Leandro, California to parents known for their expertise in gold trading. After graduating the Oakland Military Institute in 2002, Tran took up a series of odd jobs including: Mall Santa, stunt double for Rainn Wilson, and cowboy clown. But once an unfortunate incident ended Tran's career in rodeo-ing, he entered Yale University. Here he serves as community outreach chair for ViSA while still finding time to practice on his oboe and develop new theories on relativity.

SOCIAL CHAIR : Trinh Nguyen (MC '11)
Trinh was born in Southern California, but has called a lovely town on the south shore of Long Island home since she was two.   At first, she lived in a village with canals, but after too much flooding, she moved to a nearby hamlet with a much harder to pronounce name.  She is a Sociology major in Morse, and is interested in public health communications.  When Trinh isn't working at the AACC or the Calvin Hill Day Care Center, she can be found DPops-ing it, attempting to recreate something she found on Craftster.org, or counting up scene points when people line up for concerts at Toad's because it reminds her of home.  She's excited about being part of ViSA board, and encourages you to submit to the Vibe!

PUBLICATIONS CHAIR : Sherry Zhou (MC' 12)
A freshman in Morse College (the wonderful residential college without right angles), Sherry absolutely loves Yale despite its cold, snowy, blizzard-filled winters. Her homestate is North Carolina- home of the Tarheels and Blue Devils. She likes reading random books, trying to cook (usually soup, preferably with noodles), and watching movies galore. In her free time, she tutors in Mathcounts, works in pathology lab, writes for Triple Helix, and has learned to love VISA.

HISTORIAN and WEBMASTER: Michael Honhongva (BR '12)
When he isn’t found on the basketball court spending most of his days, chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’, all cool and shootin’ some b-ball outside of school, Michael Honhongva loves to refer to himself in the third-person (Just like Facebook…Michael Honhongva is reading).  Born in Arizona, raised in California, and now living in Connecticut, Michael is also freshman liaison for the Association of Native Americans at Yale and also a staffer for the Native American Cultural Center. While outside of class, he likes to exclaim “yo homes smell you later” while looking at his kingdom…the kingdom of the ViSA website.
