The Vietnamese Students Association at Yale

Celebrating 26 years

2013 Board

ANDY Vo, TC '15
President
Andy Vo is a Vietnamese boy who hails from Boston, MA and a home whose kitchen always smells like pho. In his spare time, he likes to read, watch tennis videos, and eat at all-you-can-eat buffets. He has only been to Vietnam twice, but he hopes to go back as much as possible (and potentially work there??) in the future! For now, though, Andy is content to serve as one of ViSA's stunningly handsome presidents and to serve his one-year reign as VISA's Mr. Vietnam. Here's to an amazing new year with ViSA!!

DAVIS Nguyen, BK'15
President
Davis Nguyen is from Atlanta, Georgia: home of sweet tea and southern hospitality. At Yale, Davis’ favorite activity is ViSA; before serving as President of ViSA, Davis was treasurer and freshman liaison. In his spare time, Davis loves playing poker, traveling with friends, and performing magic (ask him to do a trick!). Davis dedicates a lot of his time to his blog (FindMyMotivation.com), which is devoted to helping readers identify their goals and achieve their dreams.

KEVIN Nguyen, ES'16
Social Chair
Kevin comes from a suburb near Cleveland, Ohio, a city utterly devoid of Vietnamese culture and thus was extremely overjoyed to join ViSA.  When he’s not busy with classwork as a probable bioscience major, he’s playing violin in a bunch of orchestras, teaching elementary school kids with DEMOS, playing and composing on the guitar, eating Asian food, and chillaxing with his clique.  If you’re reading this, you must be a dang awesome person, and Kevin would love to meet you at a weekly ViSA dinner!

QUYEN Do, TC'16
Social Chair
Well don't you look dashing today! But back to the important things in life: Quyen's biography. Quyen hails from the distant land of Rockford, Illinois, and is the first of her entire family to be born in the United States. She was previously the ViSA Freshman Liaison, and is ecstatic to be one of—wait for it—THREE social chairs this year! Quyen is still exploring what she truly wants to do with her life in terms of academics and career choices, but she knows that ViSA will forever remain an integral part of her Yale experience. Also, when Quyen sees someone disregard the Oxford comma, she dies a little inside. Respect the comma, dear friend. Respect it.

TAMMY Pham, PC'15
Cultural Chair
Tammy was born in Saigon, Vietnam but has lived in San Diego, CA since she was two and a half. Thanks to living with her grandpa, who doesn't speak English, and her parents, who teach her all they know about Vietnamese culture, she is fluent in the language and has learned to cook many wonderful Vietnamese dishes. When she's not hanging out with the lovely folk in ViSA, she is probably volunteering at a hospital, working in the Arts Library, or partaking in adventures and shenanigans. She enjoys milk tea boba and sushi, especially after long bike rides to West/East Rock. Her Achilles' heel is Mario Kart. She's really bad at it and insists that her real driving is much better, but it probably isn't.

LIEN Tran, BR'16
Political Chair
Lien has lived in 3 different countries before she came to the US to specifically get involved with ViSA - which only "happened" to be at Yale - because it's obviously the best Vietnamese student association out there. Her academic interests span from physics to anthropology to music to literature from all over the world and she's on her journey of finding what she'd really like to marry as her life-long career specialty, though the process is proving to be difficult and she's happy that ViSA is so conveniently located at an institution which could facilitate this quest of hers considerably. She absolutely adores Hanoi winters, Da Nang beaches and has cross-Vietnam-from-North-to-South biking on her bucket list. She can take you to zillion of amazingly scrumptious street food stalls around Hanoi Old Quarter to eat if you ever visit, so do contact her if you ever get the chance!

CHARLOTTE Wang, MC'16
Treasurer
Charlotte is from a small, southern town in MS but already finds New Haven to be a second home. Even though she is not Vietnamese, Charlotte has always loved all Asian cultures (especially the food!), so she is very grateful for the opportunity to serve as Treasurer. In addition to VISA, she is also involved with LEAD and YUCS, and is Social Chair for CASA. Charlotte is excited to get to know everyone this year, so please contact her if you have any ideas or questions or would just like to talk!

Her extracurricular activities include the ballroom dance team, YPMB, YUCS, UWISAY, STEM, and many other things such as baking, lacrosse, and attempting to play the ukulele. She is also one of the current Freshman Liaisons, and loves befriending others in order to help them adjust to the craziness of Yale.

TONY Nguyen, DC'16
Publicity Chair
Tony grew up in Chandler, Arizona but is originally from New Haven. He is a prospective Political Science major, travels to debate tournaments with the YDA (Yale Debate Association), and works as a Student Tech, providing tech support. In his spare time, Tony enjoys watching films, finding new food places, listening to generic pop/dance music, GIFs, and chatting with people. His words to live by: one can never have too much sass.

CHAU Hoang, JE'16
Historian
Hi VISA! Hailing from Hanoi, Vietnam, I'm a sophomore in beautiful Saybrook College. Yale's academic requirements force me to consider myself a History major, but in a freer, non-restricted world I'd be a bundle of interests, which include languages and classical music and mindless doodling and fluffy animals. It was quite a long time ago when I first came to the US (this year is already my sixth year here!) so I do miss a lot of things about my hometown-- especially the delicious food, the ever-whimsical weather, and even the rowdy traffic that chokes the streets of Hanoi every single afternoon. Being a member of VISA, though, makes me feel completely at home. Through VISA I've met wonderful people, made great friends, and engaged in enriching activities that made me realize how proud I am of my heritage. I look forward to another fulfilling year as a Board member of VISA and to loving every moment of it.
