Resources

There are many resources available for those who want to learn more about the language, literature, history, and culture of Vietnam. One of the first place to start is with the Southeast Studies Council. They can point you to appropriate individuals to assist you with your inquiries. You may also try taking courses that focus Vietnam directly, or courses that refer to Vietnam as part of a larger focus.

If you already have a topic in mind that you would like to conduct research on, you might try visiting Yale University's libraries, specifically referring to the Southeast Asian Studies Reading Room on the third floor of SML. This room has many recent magazines, newsletters, and newspapers published from abroad. The helpful staff in the Reading Room will gladly assist you.

Experiencing Vietnam and its language, literature, culture, and history is also available through various Study Abroad programs sponsored by Yale and other institutions. Several students at Yale have received fellowships to support their research in Vietnam. These students have conducted research in a variety of areas, including music, history, language and literature, and even helping a NGO.
