Teacher Information
Each winter, the U. S. Grant Foundation seeks motivated Yale undergraduates to teach during its summer program. Those hired as teachers have the unique opportunity of designing and teaching their own classes. The Grant Foundation seeks applicants who have experience working with children and participating in community service work. We are now hiring for the summer of 2009, with a final deadline of January 31.
Outline of Main Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan and teach an academic enrichment class for 6 weeks. In the mornings, teachers have two sections (8-15 students) of either an Investigations Class (Math and Science focus) or a Humanities Class (Reading and Writing focus).
- Create and lead two “electives” in the afternoons, often in collaboration with other teachers.
- Direct and participate in program-wide activities and field trips.
- Attend all teacher training sessions in the spring and before the start of the summer program.
- Build relationships with students and families.
- Participate in frequent staff meetings.
- Write mid-term and final progress reports for each student.
- Complete a formal program assessment.
