James Jiler was an intern
with URI in both New Haven and Baltimore during the Summer and
Fall of 1993 and the Summer of 1994. He worked as a Community
Forester. Currently, J.J. is the director of a jail-to-street
horticulture program on Rikers Island in New York City. He works
with inmates in jail to develop job skills and, after their release,
he helps them find work in the city. He is writing a book called "Doing
Time in the Garden: a year on Rikers." He says that "URI
was an incredible bridge from the academic world to the professional
workplace." |
