PARTNERSHIPS
James Jiler was an intern with URI in both New Haven and Baltimore during the Summer and Fall of 1993 and the Summer of 1994. He worked as a Community Forester. Currently, J.J. is the director of a jail-to-street horticulture program on Rikers Island in New York City. He works with inmates in jail to develop job skills and, after their release, he helps them find work in the city. He is writing a book called "Doing Time in the Garden: a year on Rikers." He says that "URI was an incredible bridge from the academic world to the professional workplace."
