I. General announcements

a)     Jess – AnaÕs Story: A Journey of Hope by Jenna Bush, book about girl she met during UNICEF internship, girlÕs mother born with HIV, took drugs so she wouldnÕt get it when born

a.     Book tour – possible MasterÕs Tea at Davenport, sister was in D-port

b.     Roshan – has connections to publishers, can help

b)    Paul R. – Rwandan whose family was one of the few to find asylum in U.S. during genocide, wants to be hosted for speech

II. ChildrenÕs Week

a)     Dwight hall only free on Sat, Dec. 1, so move carnival to beginning of week

b)    Collaborating with YCC – contact Tom Shea, VP, about publicizing – Pam

a.     Rosh will send her a bio of Raffie

c)     Dance – Crushes and Chaperones not happening until spring L Other ideas?

a.     Sock Hop – dance with socks on and shoes off

b.     Partner with ISO? – Shejuti will ask for Dec. 8

III. HeadStart presentations – Pamela.Shen at yale.edu

a)     Tuesday and Thursday 8:30-9:30, first dates Oct. 11 and 16

b)    Headstart started in New Haven by Zigler, government sponsored to prepare children for school

c)     Not enough money for enrichment programs, so weÕre doing presentations about music and will make instruments with bottles and beans/rice

d)    Bring bottles! Odwalla ones are ideal, but anything goes.

IV. Trick-or-Treat

a)     Jess will contact PSIs (listed in Dwight) for presentations in schools and bring list of restaurants

b)    Boxes will come next week

c)     Table – sign out boxes to people if interested

d)    Leave some in library or other places

V. Current Event – Nikki Oakman

a)     Niger – focusing on education, especially of girls, also on immunization, hygiene and HIV/AIDS; malnutrition down!

b)    Relevant because last year worked with Amman Imman (Water for Life), a group that raised funds to build wells in very dry area of Niger

VI. Trip to Africa

a)     Niger and region we want to go to, Azawak, blacklistedÉ

b)    Would get vaccinated, for sure – UNICEF advisor is in public health school.

VII. Yule Ball

a)     UOFC deadline Oct. 6!

b)    Contact Shejuti.sarwar at yale.edu if want to help with application this week
