Beating the Flu
Flu Prevention Tips
- Wash your hands often.
- Avoid touching your nose and eyes
- Maintain a nutritious and well-balanced diet.
- Stay hydrated.
- Get plenty of rest.
- Don't share your toothbrush or toothpaste.
- Keep your room well ventilated.
- Get vaccinated if you are 65 or older, have a chronic lung or heart condition, or work in health care.
Alleviating Symptoms
- Stay in bed until your fever is gone.
- For fever, muscle aches, or headaches take Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen.
- Stop smoking and avoid second-hand smoke.
- To alleviate a sore throat, gargle with warm salt water.
- To loosen congestion, drink hot fluids.

Come to YUHS if:
- Your fever is over 101 degrees.
- Your cough lasts for more than two weeks.
- You develop face/ear pain, shortness of breath or a stiff neck.
- Your throat is so sore you can not swallow.
- You are unable to retain fluids due to vomiting or diarrhea.
